Did you watch Extreme Couponing last night?

Did you see TLC's new reality TV show Extreme Couponing last night? As many of you know my fiancee is a reality TV producer so reality TV is pretty much banned in our house. However I get a special pass to watch this. :-)

Please know that this show like many reality TV shows is designed for maximum entertainment and shock value. No supermarket or pharmacy is going to allow anyone to use the amount of coupons that these people use in one go. In fact most stores limit you to 4 of the same coupon per transaction. Also I don't advocate buying lots of the same item just because you can get it free. You'll find lots of deals on my blog where you can buy items for free or nearly free and the temptation may be the to buy more than you need but really, who needs 30 tubes of toothpaste! Most items go on sale once every three months so buy just enough to get you through to the next sale. Besides it's polite to leave enough on the shelf for other shoppers.

What I do like about this show though is it shows you that it is possible for an average shopper to make significant savings using coupons found in their Sunday newspapers. In this age of rising prices and declining salaries that can only be a good thing.

What did you think of Extreme Couponing?
